Day Two Hundred Fifty-Seven

Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Preserve

A picture of an island of large tree-like structures filled with herons, egrets, and cormorants grabs my attention every time I visit the Will County Forest Preserve‘s website. So even though Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Preserve is a fair distance from our home, my husband and two sons joined me for a walk there today.

Lake Renwick

The preserve is in Plainfield, Illinois, and actually consists of three lakes along Lily Cache Creek. Although it was really beautiful, we only saw one great blue heron, and it was on Budde Lake. We did see swans, geese, and cormorants along this lovely walkway along the three lakes.

I took a close-up picture of the swans shown above (lower right) and have entered WordPress’ Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside.

Nice walk!
