Day Two Hundred Three

Thorn Creek Nature Preserve

My son and I, after running some errands today, walked for a bit at the Thorn Creek Woods Nature Preserve, in unincorporated Will County, near the Cook County line.

This preserve is a joint venture between the Will County Forest Preserve, and two Cook County villages–Park Forest and University Park. The nature preserve sits in a donated 1865 Park Forest church moved from another location.  It was not open when we were there.

Thorn Creek Nature PreserveBeing a fairly warm Monday afternoon, we were all alone as we walked into the woods on the path behind the church.  This was nice and peaceful, but also a little spooky. As we walked deeply into the woods, we only saw a few birds, including a very large one that flew off as we approached.  Unfortunately, I never got a second look to see what it was.  I guess I’ll just have to go back, but when the nature preserve is open, so that I can ask about that big bird!

Good day, good walk!
