Day One Hundred Sixty-five

Although I’ve been dropping our Christmas tree off at Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center for “recycling” for years, I’ve never walked around the nature trails until this evening.  My husband and youngest son joined me in walking all of the trails.

Much of the land for this nature center was donated by the Irons family.  The rest of the land was purchased and is maintained by a joint venture between the local park districts.  They run environmental and scout programs, summer camps, and corporate team-building exercises throughout the year.

The relatively new administration building is lovely.  We enjoyed seeing the high-ropes and team-building courses deep in the woods.  We found a golf ball along the edge of the Olympia Fields’ Country Club, site of the 2004 U.S. Open, which borders the center.  Our favorite part though was the algae-covered pond with a bubbler in the center.

Irons OaksGood day, good walk!
