My youngest son, now off school for the summer, joined me in walking around at the Bartel Grassland. This mostly prairie section of The Tinley Creek Trail System is part of the Cook County Forest Preserve and has three separate parking areas, but no paved trails.
With the ground still quite wet, we didn’t actually get much walking in, but still enjoyed looking around all three parking areas at the prairie grasses and flowers. We also saw some red-wing blackbirds, swallows, and some other birds that I didn’t get a good enough look at to definitively identify.
I promised myself to come back sometime with binoculars.
Good day, good walk.
