Time of walk: 12:00 PM
Temperature: 48° F (felt like 42°)
With the overnight rain and slightly warmer temperatures, Tuesday’s big snowfall has turned into Sunday’s big melt. We noticed it both on our drive to and during our walk at the Hickory Creek Junction of the Will County Forest Preserve. The ditches were full of moving water and the water retention areas were doing their jobs retaining.
The Hickory Creek Junction is a beautiful strip of land that runs mostly north-south and connects the Hickory Creek Preserve to the Old Plank Trail, a 21 mile bike path converted from an unused railroad line. A portion of the trail runs over Lincoln Highway on an interesting pedestrian bridge. The rest of the area is mostly prairie lowlands and trees. We enjoyed listening to all of the birds as we walked.
Good day, good walk.
